The Hive
The Hive is a dynamic, recently refurbished learning space, accessed by all students at our school, which fosters innovation, collaboration and investigation. Our contemporary facilities consist of a well-resourced library and resource centre, alongside open spaces for the hands on application of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) – inclusive of coding technologies, 3D printing and Maker Spaces.
At Parafield Gardens Primary School, we are deeply committed to equipping every child with the ability to read – and read well! Learning to read is such an essential skill, to not only find success in school and to thrive in the world beyond, but to also experience the joy that getting lost in a wonderful book brings to life. To support our vision of ensuring every learner leaves PGPS with a deep love of reading, during 2023, our library area in The Hive was rejuvenated and developed into a warm, welcoming and inspiring learning space where our students can come to read and learn together. Every class participates in library lessons with our Lead Teacher, providing hands-on, rich learning experiences, which focus on providing our students with a broad range of critical literacy skills.
At Parafield Gardens Primary School, we value and emphasise the development of skills and dispositions required to work collaboratively, think creatively, analyse critically and problem solve in our rapidly changing world. Through engagement, exploration and investigation we aim to foster curious, lifelong learners and forward thinkers. The Hive encompasses a wealth of digital technologies, including a custom-built Green Room with specialist equipment for media education and screen making, empowering our students to experiment with a film production process known as chroma keying. The Hive fosters collaboration and communication by providing flexible learning spaces for formal presentations, group and class discussions.
Our purpose-built Kitchen and Garden facilities are integrated into the space, giving students the opportunity to engage in food technology and agriculture, whilst developing awareness of sustainable living practices.
